INmusic Festival, Croatia

In June 2015, I flew to Croatia with 3 of my best friends to go to the INmusic Festival in Zagreb, the country’s capital. The festival is 3 days long, and the prices are unbelievably cheap – 60 euros for the festival ticket and 34 euros for up to five days camping! Plus the prices are even lower if you book early! The festival is held on an island in the middle of Lake Jarun, which meant that the whole atmosphere was very relaxed and laid-back. When we weren’t listening to music we went  swimming in the lake or read our books lying on the grass by our tents. The campsite was unlike any festival campsites I have been to before – there was so much space within which to pitch tents, so everyone had lots of privacy and it didn’t feel overcrowded. The facilities were also great: there were indoor and outdoor showers, as well as a charging point. The fact that people would leave their phones to charge all day just goes to show how friendly and safe the festival felt!

The music was a great mix of styles, with something to suit everyone’s tastes. When I went, the acts I enjoyed most were Paolo Nutini, Placebo, Of Monsters And Men, La Roux, and Rudimental. However, there were also lots of smaller Croatian bands performing, and it was really interesting to hear them as well. Alongside this was a silent disco, as well as a karaoke tent which we made full use of!

One thing we did not utilise during our time at InMusic was the excursions they run, which you can find out about here. Each day there is the option of going kayaking down the Mreznica Canyon, hiking in the Plitvice Lakes region, as well as going mountain biking and going on a walking tour of Zagreb. These trips are very reasonably priced, and are perfect for people who are only in Croatia for a short period of time so need to pack lots in to each day. For us, we spent a week travelling round the country after going to the festival, so did not really need to go on any excursions as we planned to do some of the activities later on in our trip anyway! Overall, the INmusic festival was an amazing few days filled with sun, great music and beautiful scenery, and I would highly recommend it. Even when you take flights into account, it is still cheaper than many of the big festivals in UK. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, but with lots going on to keep everyone entertained. This year, the headliners include Kings Of Leon, Kasabian, Alt J and Arcade Fire, so it really is an event not to be missed!
