On our way back from Split to Zagreb, we stayed the night in the Plitvice Lakes National Park. This is the most popular tourist destination in Croatia, and is an area of outstanding natural beauty. It’s a definite must-see for anyone who visits the country!
We didn’t book ahead, but the road we drove down was lined with lots of holiday apartments so we just stopped at one which took our fancy. However, we travelled at the end of June so it might be better to book ahead if you go in peak season! The apartment we stayed at was very reasonably priced and had two bedrooms, a kitchen with a large dining room table, and an unbeatable view! It suited are needs perfectly and we had a lovely evening cooking food, chatting and admiring the scenery.
The next morning we went on a kayaking trip which was run by a company called Raftrek. We kayaked down Mreznica Canyon in a group of about 10 people, stopping en route to take in the stunning views, as well as jump off the waterfalls into the pools of turquoise water. It was incredible – the perfect mix of adrenaline and beauty, and the guides ensured that we felt safe, whilst teaching us about the area we were kayaking through. The trip lasted for the majority of the day and cost 35 euros each. Before going I wasn’t sure whether this was expensive for what it was, but I couldn’t have been more wrong! It was 100% worth it, and was one of the best things I have done in a long time!
Have you ever been kayaking somewhere amazing? I would love to discover other places to do more activities like this so please leave a comment if you have any suggestions! Also, click here to read about the rest of my Croatian roadtrip. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading!
